What is the difference between a Memorandum and a Certificate?
There is very little difference. The limited rights conveyed by either document are the same. However a Memorandum does not include certificate holder information or the standard cancellation wording.
Is the Memorandum Of Insurance evidence of Insurance coverage?
Yes. The Memorandum of Insurance is an acceptable method to evidence current policy coverage information.
Can the Memorandum be printed?
Yes.
Is it possible for someone to change the Memorandum once it has been posted?
No. It cannot be changed or edited.
What are the benefits to me of using a Memorandum of Insurance?
- It’s available to you to view anytime 24/7
- No waiting on important verification of coverage
- Reduces the paperwork, phone calls and faxes involved in obtaining paper Certificates of Insurance
- You can print a copy for your files
- Leverages internet technology to save time and money
Why was the Memorandum of Insurance created?
Creating and maintaining Certificates of Insurance is a highly labor and time intensive process for all parties involved-the Insured, the Certificate Holder, the Broker and Carrier(s). Using a Memorandum of Insurance as evidence of coverage dramatically expedites the process and allows work to proceed without having to wait for the Certificate to be delivered.
How long will the Memorandum be posted?
For the duration of the policy.
What if I need to be named as an Additional Insured?
Policies with Broad Form Additional Insured endorsements extend Additional Insured status via the Memorandum of Insurance, when such coverage extension is required by written contract.
How do I know the policies are current and in force?
The validity of coverage is verified daily in the “Date” fields of the Memorandum of Insurance, just the same as a certificate.
